PRESS RELEASE:

CRIMINAL GATHERING OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT TO CELEBRATE “OPERATION PICK n MIX.”

Operation “Pick n Mix” is a new police initiative under which the Law is no longer upheld in a way we have become accustomed to. On MONDAY FEB 19th between 11a.m and 2p.m there will be a gathering outside Parliament of “fancy dress” criminals to celebrate this new approach to not upholding law and order. Feb 18th sees the 2nd anniversary of the Hunt ban coming into “force” yet fox, stag and hare hunters are blatantly breaking it whilst the police are taking no action at all to stop them. Bank robbers, drug dealers and gangsters will salute the Hunt master as he sticks his finger up to Parliament and they will request to the police that they too be included in “Operation Pick n Mix.”

For decades the issue of hunting with hounds was a top political issue finally culminating with Parliament, by an overwhelming majority, passing the Hunt ban on the grounds that it is an unacceptable, cruel bloodsport. This issue now is about law-breaking and the precedent that the Hunt are setting by placing themselves above the law of the land.

Fox, hare and stag hunts are routinely breaking the law, under the cover that they are “drag-hunting”. In most cases this is a lie and everybody in the countryside knows it. It is an open secret that most hunts are now hunting as they did before the ban and the “drag hunting” pretext is simply there to act as an alibi; not they need one. The police message seems to be “we ain’t seen nothin’ Squire” whilst hunters drive horses and hounds through the new Law. The Law for all its inadequacies states in simple plain English that it is illegal to hunt wild mammals with hounds yet go to any Hunt in the country and this is exactly what you will see them doing. It is a disgraceful situation that the government doesn’t want to face up to for political reasons and the police are turning a blind eye to for ……..what reason????

Perhaps the police could issue some guidance as to which laws are in vogue so as to enable citizens, under this new laissez-faire approach to the Criminal Law, to “pick n mix” their own personalised set of standards. In fact who needs Parliament when the police seem perfectly content to take on the role of deciding on constitutional issues for themselves.

Realistically speaking, enforcing the Hunt ban was never going to be a top priority for the police but no-one expected them to so blatantly ignore the Hunts arrogant defiance of the criminal law. The police do not hesitate to go after gypsies, poachers and hare coursers who go out hunting with hounds and they are to be commended for their crackdown on badger-baiters but what about the noticeable absence of any effective policing of the Hunt?…..we wonder what the reason could be for this. Surely now that we are in the 21st Century the Hunt’s ties with the landed gentry wouldn’t having anything to do with it? Now that would be shocking…..not!

When concerned citizens go out and try to film the hunt breaking the law they are routinely harrassed and assaulted yet the police still sit back and do nothing. To quote from the Horse and Hounds magazine – "It's not the police we've got to watch, it's the antis with their video cameras."
Graham Bridgeman - Chairman, Eggesford Hunt. Horse and Hound, 10/02/2005 It has recently been leaked that the police have been advising senior Countryside Alliance officials on how best to avoid prosecution whilst continuing to hunt (Daily Western Press 09/02/ 2007)

Oscar Wilde said of the fox-hunters - “the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable.” Now they look upon themselves as “the untouchables” whilst the police do nothing to get in their way.
