Jill's Day 2000 at Fridaythorpe, York

Sadly, in the year 2000, there was no National event organised in memory of Jill Phipps. But a minibus full of Midlands campaigners attended a small rememberance event on Sunday 30 January outside Stephen Yates (driver of lorry that killed Jill) haulage yard in Fridaythorpe near York. Around 40 protesters held a short demonstration and a minutes silence was held and flowers laid in memory of Jill. Veggies delicious food ensured protesters didn`t go hungry, on what was a cold, windy day.

After leaving Fridaythorpe, protesters moved on to Bantin and Kingman, the vivisection breeders at Grimston, near Hull. B & K breed and supply dogs, monkeys, rabbits, rodents and other animals to labs around the country. Protesters, many of whom had never been before, held a short demo outside the secluded premises. Purple ribbon was tied to the gate and fences and neighbouring properties were leafletted.
